Team 2472, The Centurions is a FIRST robotics team from Circle Pines, Minnesota. Established in 2007 by head mentor John Cloues, the team has now been around for 4 seasons, entering it's fifth year. The team boasts the "Rookie All Star Award" from North Star Regional, 2008, gifted to the most promising rookie team, and also the "Gracious Professionalism Award" in the 2009 season. The team consists of a professional and competitive group of students, alumni, parents, and mentors from all fields of industry.

About FIRST and Team 2472.

FIRST is an organization that is working to increase appreciation for science, technology, and
engineering. They believe that these things are important for our society, future careers, and for each individual involved in them. Their name is an acronym that means For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. They were founded in 1992 by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway.

 

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders." – Dean Kamen on the FIRST Vision.

 

FIRST organizes multiple robotics competitions for high school age students and under. They allow students to explore engineering, building, creativity, problem solving, and competition. The competitions are based off a game or objective that teams design their robots to compete in, either against other robots in an intense match, or alone to achieve an objective. The competitions feature awards that promote service to society for the advancement of FIRST’s vision.

 

Our team’s relationship to FIRST started in 2008 when we joined the FIRST Robotics Competition for high-school ages. We have strongly participated in each regional competition since then and pursued high success. We enjoy the fun, but also recognize the importance that technology and engineering have to our careers and futures. Multiple team members have focused their careers on engineering-related fields since participating on the team. We appreciate the things we learn from our mentors, sponsors, and the amazing atmosphere FIRST creates.
